The Language & Culture Program is designed for those who want to improve their English while experiencing U.S. culture.
Take highly interactive writing, listening and speaking, and elective courses that allow you to develop your language skills while practicing English in real situations. Receive extensive feedback from experienced teachers to help you build confidence.
Have an American college student experience by immersing yourself in the beautiful ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder campus, attending student events, and working out at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä’s award-winning Recreation Center. Take advantage of Boulder’s outstanding climate and inspiring landscape, a great environment for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling. Culture buffs can explore Denver’s many interesting museums, such as the Denver Museum of Art, History Colorado Museum, Meow Wolf (an immersive, experiential art space), as well as a variety of seasonal festivals. Finally, sports enthusiasts can cheer for a wide range of sports teams throughout the year: ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder Buffs Football, the Denver Broncos, the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Rockies, the Colorado Rapids, and the Colorado Avalanche.Ìý

Homestays
Homestays are available for the Short-term Language + Culture ProgramÌýand Special Programs only. It is the responsibility of the IEC to match students with their homestay families.ÌýStudents in our regular programs who are interested in homestays can explore options with third-party providers such asÌý, ,ÌýorÌý.
Homestay Family Details
- Homestay families are located in Boulder and in the cities surrounding Boulder.
- All homes are located on convenient bus lines to the IEC.
- Homestay families are carefully vetted and have passed background checks.
- Homestay families provide a safe and nurturing environment and will assist the student’s adaptation to family and life in the U.S.
- Most host families sign up because they are interested in learning about different cultures from around the world or they have lived/studied in different countries. Students are fully integrated into the host family as much as possible.
- Homestay families provide breakfast and dinner for their students. Meals are nutritional and well-balanced.Ìý Dietary restrictions (allergies, vegetarian/vegan, and religious diets) are accommodated.
- Students have a private bedroom with natural sunlight, access to wifi, a desk, a chair, a dresser, a closet, and a bed. There is also adequate storage space for clothes and personal belongings.
- Students have reasonable use of the house and amenities: blankets, linens, towels, and access to laundry facilities.
