Going to the airport for the holidays?

Did you know you can travel to the Denver International Airport (DIA) for free with your Buff OneCard? With one stop adjacent to �� Boulder at 16th and Broadway, the SkyRide (AB1) leaves hourly from Boulder Station. If you're taking the AB1 bus, head over to the Downtown Station to improve your chances of getting a spot on the bus. Live by 28th Street? Use the AB2 route instead of the AB1 to get ahead of the crowd. You can also take the Flatiron Flyer bus to Union Station and take the A light rail line. Visit RTD’s website on airport transit options for more details or use the Transit app for route planning and real-time arrival details.

Students, join the Sustainable Transportation Subcommittee

This ��SG E-board transportation subcommittee is a continuation of the work going into the Transportation Demand Management Plan, advocating for effective uses of the transportation budget and how to meet the Climate Action Plan’s emission goals. We invite guest speakers and are working on outreach and engagement, assessment, budgetary recommendations, policy and special projects.

Join the Sustainable Transportation Subcommittee on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. or reach out to chair Ashton.Tribble@colorado.edu with questions and to be added to scheduling for 2026 meetings.

Take public transit to explore the high country

Heading out to the mountains this season? The Bustang's West Line service and Pegasus express shuttle service connects travelers to Idaho Springs, Vail and more. The Snowstang service provides transportation directly to ski resorts, including Breckenridge and Copper Mountain. To travel up and down U.S. 40, take the Outrider Craig–Denver service. On Dec. 19, the Amtrak Winter Park Express will start, which travels between Denver and the Winter Park Resort. Take the 2025 �� Transportation Survey for a chance to win a $100 shopping spree

Survey says that less than 30% of the �� community drives alone to campus. These are strong numbers but they are no longer accurate. Our last university-wide survey predated COVID, new micromobility options and increased work-from-home rates. This fall’s �� Transportation Survey is important to our transportation work and efforts to track our greenhouse gas impacts.

This is where you come in! More than 9,000 lucky people received an email on Oct. 28 titled, “Transportation and Sustainability Feedback,” that includes a link to our �� Transportation Survey, unique to each participant. If you received it, take the survey by Nov. 14 and you will be entered to win a $100 shopping spree at the �� Bookstore.

Give your input for the Boulder County Transit Plan

Boulder County is creating its first Transit Plan, called "Linking Boulder County," and is launching a survey to learn about residents' experiences with public transit and their feedback. The project team is holding pop-up events, and their dates and locations are on the Linking Boulder County project website. Don't forget to submit your thoughts in the Transit Needs Survey by Nov. 20.

�� Boulder launches campus safety app: �� Boulder Safe

�� Boulder's Division of Public Safety (DPS) has launched a new mobile safety app, �� Boulder Safe. The app is designed to centralize emergency alerts, safety tools and campus resources—making it easier for students, faculty and staff to find everything they need in one place. The app also includes all of �� Boulder's transit info and maps, including a link to the Transit app. �� Boulder Safe is free for campus affiliates and available on both iOS and Android devices. Resurfacing between 28th St. and Cherryvale Road for better accessibility

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has begun a resurfacing project on Colorado Highway 7 (Arapahoe Avenue) between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road until late December. This project will implement ADA upgrades and convert underutilized right-through lanes into shared curbside lanes for buses and right-turning vehicles. Traffic impacts are available on the CDOT CO 7 Resurfacing project website.

Don't forget: Late night Buff Bus service for Will Vill route

Via buses run on the Will Vill route from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. every Thursday, Friday and Saturday when campus is open. These all-black buses will arrive at stops every 12 to 15 minutes, with the last bus leaving Will Vill at 1 a.m.

�� Boulder Vanpool Program passes 20 vans

With the partnership of Commute with Enterprise, the university's Vanpool Program now has 21 vans in its fleet. If you are a �� Boulder employee, affiliate or contractor, check out the �� Boulder Vanpool Program website to save money on parking and other costs during your campus commute.

The League of American Bicyclists is looking for input in its decision to designate �� Boulder as a Bicycle Friendly University. Support our sustainable transportation efforts and submit your feedback on campus bicycling conditions by Oct. 5.

City of Boulder looking for e-micromobility feedback

Have thoughts on BCycle and Lime e-scooters? Provide feedback on your experience through the City of Boulder survey for shared e-micromobility by the end of the month.

Students, join the �� Boulder Sustainable Transportation Subcommittee

The Environmental Center would like to hear from students and invite members to join the Sustainable Transportation Subcommittee. This board will be a continuation of the Transportation Master Plan, advocating for effective uses of the available $10 million transportation budget. The primary goal of this committee will be supporting the staff and consultants in using student fee money on transportation and how to meet the climate action plan’s emission goals. Bike Fest

Join us on Sept. 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. on Farrand Field for Bike Fest and partake in free food, shirts and bike repairs. Make sure to also check out the Annual Used Bike Sale at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to buy bikes at reduced prices.

Visit the outdoors car-free

Want to head out into nature without a car? The City of Boulder has compiled a list of resources to expand trailhead access through other modes of transit. Check out the trailhead cameras to help plan your adventure.

RTD expands some services as of August 31st

RTD has confirmed their proposed changes will now take place effective Aug. 31. Take a look at the new schedules on the RTD bus schedule website. The new changes include:

Boulder Junction at Depot Square Station will reopen with the AB2 (Airport bus) and FF4 (Flatiron Flyer 4) bus routes, connecting Boulder to Denver International Airport and downtown Denver respectively. Join Boulder Chamber Transportation Connections, RTD and other transportation leaders on Sept. 3 for a reopening celebration!
Weekday AB2 airport trips will now depart from Boulder Junction Depot Square Station instead of Downtown Boulder Station. Saturday service between Downtown Boulder and DIA will operate as AB3 to reduce confusion.
The FF2 and FF4 Flatiron Flyer will have more trips during peak hours.
- FF2 Eastbound: 3 morning trips (7:00 to 8:30 a.m.) and 2 afternoon trips (4:00 to 5:30 p.m.)
- FF2 Westbound: 2 morning trips and 3 afternoon trips
- FF4: 8 new peak-hour trips in each direction for morning (7:00 to 8:30 a.m.) and afternoon (4:00 to 5:30 p.m.)
Westbound FF5 trips in the afternoon and evening will now travel via I-70 to I-25 and continuing onto US 36 to avoid congestion on I-270.

Volunteer to help Buffs travel around campus

Give our new cohort of Buffs a warm welcome by volunteering at Buff Stops to answer questions and help Buffs navigate campus grounds on Aug. 21 and 22.

Keep track of your speed on CO 119 Diagonal Highway

Since July 21, the Colorado Department of Transportation has been issuing warnings for speed violations on CO 119 as a part of the Colorado Speed Enforcement Program. There will be a grace period during which violations will result in warnings mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. Following the grace period, violators will receive civil penalties of $75.

Road closure on 63rd/61st Street

To replace aging waterlines, 63rd/61st Street between Jay and Valmont roads will be closed until spring 2026. 63rd Street north of Jay Road will have detours during the beginning of construction, and local and business access along 63rd/61st Street will be maintained with detours, which may change throughout construction.

Stat of the month: Avoided gas trips

Did you know, Colorado Carshare now has electric vehicles that you can rent for your daily trips? In the past 12 months, members took just over 380 gas-free trips, avoiding hundreds of gallons of gasoline. �� Students and staff are eligible for a special rate. Just apply the promo code ��ECENTER and use your colorado.edu email for a waived registration fee ($25 value) + $20 in Colorado CarShare driving credit!

Hit the trails by shuttle this season

Even though summer is wrapping up, you can still take advantage of recreational shuttles to get hiking until September and October, depending on the shuttle. Most are free to ride, so take a look at the recreational shuttle schedules for your next mountain adventure. The City of Boulder has also launched new trailhead cameras to check parking and weather conditions.

Front Range Passenger Rail hit major milestone with interagency agreement

On June 27, Governor Polis, RTD, and other stakeholders all voted to adopt an interagency agreement to enable passenger rail service on the northern Front Range from Denver to Fort Collins. The goal is to start service in January 2029.

Give feedback on the Colorado Active Transportation Plan

CDOT has created a draft Statewide Active Transportation Plan to improve safety, equity, sustainability and other factors impacting transportation. Submit your public comment on the plan by July 18.

Find parking on campus with a new availability tool

We know that sometimes you need to drive and may want to find an available spot in our most popular visitor lots. The mobile-friendly parking website provides real-time updates on lot availability, ensuring quick and convenient access to parking. Help support this new tool by providing feedback via the Feedback Form.

�� campus traffic and parking closures and updates

Take note of the following campus updates this month:

Check the Phish concert special event page for traffic updates from July 3 to 5.
The entire Euclid parking garage (Lot 205) will be closed from 11:59 p.m. on July 5 until 6:00 a.m. on July 14. Permit holders are advised to park in Lot 436 during this period. For any questions, please contact parking@colorado.edu or call parking customer service at (303) 735-PARK (7275).
Part of the sidewalk along the east side of Regent Drive, in front of the Event Center, will be closed until July 29 with signage for pedestrians.

Drive in style: EV car share by CASE

Colorado CarShare is now offering EV car share options in the parking lot next to the Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE). Don’t forget to also check out the EVs at C4C and Williams Village. The Boulder County Family Resource Network has created the Boulder County Findhelp website to support Boulder residents in finding support for transit, medical care, food, job training, housing and more. Simply search your zip code to start finding opportunities to fit your needs.

Paving on Colorado Ave ends on June 13

Current paving operations between Folsom St. and 28th St. may cause traffic delays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Although delays are possible during the week of June 9 due to the weather, paving is expected to finish on June 13.

Give your opinion on future transportation projects and funding

Travel by shuttle to hit the trails

Take advantage of seasonal shuttles, most of which offer free service, to visit the wilderness. Elevate your nature commute by taking a look at the recreation shuttles available this season.

The City of Boulder is working to create more bike infrastructure that is safer and more convenient, such as replacing 350 bike racks in commercial areas. The Bike-n-Ride shelter at the 14th & Walnut parking garage in Downtown Boulder Station is great for safe bike storage. If you're on campus, any �� Boulder student or employee can use the �� Secure shelters. The Boulder Farmers Market also offers free bike valet run by volunteer shifts until November 22.

Can't bike? Check out the five BoulderPark garages downtown that offer free parking on weekends and city holidays and a $3 flat rate on weekdays from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. Don't forget to register on Metropolis to make the most of Boulder's parking opportunities.

Guilty verdict in Magnus White case

In April 2025, a Boulder jury found Yeva Smilianska guilty of reckless vehicular homicide in the July 2023 death of 17-year-old cyclist Magnus White. White was training for the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships when he was struck by Smilianska's vehicle on Highway 119. The verdict has intensified calls for improved cyclist safety measures. RTD "Diagonal Flyer" webinars May 5 and 6

Regional Transportation District (RTD) is hosting public informational webinars regarding future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service between Boulder and Longmont that will offer details about proposed stations, stops, frequencies and service levels for the two Diagonal Flyer routes (DF1 and DF2) that will operate along the CO 119 corridor, also known as the Diagonal, when the BRT begins operating service in 2027. Participants can access the Zoom meeting link on the Community Events page of the RTD website. Three time slots are offered for the online webinar:

Monday, May 5, noon-1 p.m.
Monday, May 5, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Tuesday, May 6, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The webinars are informational meetings with no public comment scheduled during the session. Customers are invited to share feedback on the proposed DF1 and DF2 routes through a service hours and frequency online survey that will be offered during May and June on the CO 119 Bus Rapid Transit Project webpage.
