Note: Fall 2026 registration for current (continuing) degree-seeking undergraduate students, readmitted degree-seeking undergraduate and partnership program students opens on the assigned enrollment appointment and remains open through May 21. The schedule adjustment period for continuing and readmitted undergrads opens July 21 and remains open through open enrollment.

Registration for continuing and readmitted degree-seeking undergraduate students closes May 21. Schedule adjustment begins on July 21 for current (continuing) and readmitted undergraduates and partnership program students and remains open through open enrollment.

Get Ready to Register

Your assigned enrollment period begins at [time] on [date]. To make registration as easy as possible, complete these tasks now:

Add your enrollment dates to your calendar.
Work to resolve any registration holds by following the instructions in the hold's description.
If you haven't already, schedule an advising appointment.
If eligible, reserve a seat in a course. Course reservation starts Monday, March 23, and ends at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 27.
Complete preregistration.
Search for classes and add them to your shopping cart for faster registration. Learn more about how to search for classes.

Register for Classes

Register as soon as your enrollment time begins for the best chance to get the classes, class times and/or instruction modes you want. For step-by-step instructions, see our registration pages.

If a class you want is full, add yourself to the waitlist and set up drop if enrolled to automatically drop a backup class if you're enrolled from the waitlist.

Even if you're not taking classes this spring, you're still considered an active student if you've been gone for fewer than two semesters plus summer (undergrads), or if you took an official leave of absence (grad students).

Registration Overview

On Wednesday, March 4, each student’s assigned enrollment appointment date and time will appear on their enrollment dates card in Buff Portal and in a registration e-memo from our office. Enrollment appointments are based on total completed cumulative hours for all but law students. If a student has �� or transfer hours added after their enrollment appointment is set, they may be eligible for an enrollment appointment adjustment.

Registration for continuing undergraduate students remains open through May 21. Schedule adjustment for undergrads opens July 21 and remains open for open enrollment. Registration for continuing graduate and law students remains open through open enrollment.

Student Enrollment Blocks

Registration opens for each student block at the dates and times below. The time indicated below is the start time of the first appointment within that block. A given block may have several appointment start times. If that is the case, start times occur every 15 minutes.*

Summer and Fall 2026 Advising Hold Timeline

Friday, Jan. 9: The Systems & Data Services team contacted departments with existing hold information.
Thursday, Jan. 22:
- Deadline for departments with existing holds to submit additions, changes or deletions.
- Deadline for departments to request a new advising hold (email your request to regsystemsdata@colorado.edu).
Tuesday, Jan. 27: Deadline for departments to submit SID lists for batch processing (if applicable).
Thursday, Jan. 29: The Systems & Data Services team begins setting advising holds and will complete this process no later than Feb. 17 for Summer and March 3 for Fall.
Friday, Feb. 13 at noon: Final advising hold deadline for Summer 2026.
Wednesday, Feb. 18: Assigned enrollment dates for Summer 2026 are visible to students in Buff Portal. No new advising holds will be assigned for Summer 2026.
Friday, Feb. 27 at noon: Final advising hold deadline for Fall 2026.

We will begin setting Summer and Fall 2026 advising holds (a.k.a., advising service indicators) for continuing students on Thursday, Jan. 29. Once set, these holds will prevent students in those programs from registering until they've met with their academic advisor.

If your department would like to discuss creating a new advising hold for Summer or Fall 2026, email the Systems & Data Services team with the details of your request by Thursday, Jan. 22.

Review Your Holds

If your department currently uses advising holds, you should have received an email from the Systems & Data Services team to confirm the population and text of your hold. Reply with any necessary changes, additions or deletions by Thursday, Jan. 22.

If your department's advising holds are assigned using an SID list, submit your list by noon on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Lists submitted after that date will be processed in the order in which they're received, allowing at least two business days for processing.

Notify Your Students

To support student success, academic departments are responsible for notifying their students when an advising hold is placed and for providing a clear explanation of the steps the student must take to have it released.

If you wish to request an e-memo, student communications are distributed by Strategic Relations & Communications using �� Boulder Today and associated campus communication tools. Visit the �� Boulder Today website to view the different tools (e.g., �� Boulder Today stories and administrative e-memos) and submit your message for campus audiences.

Release Holds Promptly

Advising holds now include a timeline for release (e.g., "After you've met with your advisor, your hold will be removed within three business days"). Please remove the advising hold as soon as you can after the student has received advising to ensure compliance with this timeline.
