From the Leeds Dean: Creating an environment where we all can thrive
With the new academic year underway and recognizing that what we do at Leeds and how we manage our academic programs and our culture also affects the university as a whole, I write to give you an update and address some of the issues you may have been hearing and reading about. As the Dean of Leeds, I am committed to working with our faculty, staff and students to create and support an environment in which all can thrive.
Human Resources launches new employee orientation experience
The New Employee Welcome Experience is the first event in a comprehensive, year-long onboarding experience designed to increase the understanding of Boulder’s culture, organizational structure and governance, operations, learning mission, values and campus initiatives. The program is offered to new, permanent employees. This program is recommended for employees in their first 30-45 days of employment.
New partnership with Lockheed Martin forges research, career opportunities for students
A new $3 million sponsorship by Lockheed Martin announced Thursday will establish academic programs focused on radio frequency (RF) systems. RF fields address commercial, civil and military needs for communications, radar and photonics. For students, the partnership means even more opportunities to get real-world experience in tracking, navigation and spacecraft control as well as next-generation global navigation technologies.
Bystander intervention training offers skills to help a friend in need
Arriving on campus and adjusting to a new social environment is an exciting time for undergraduate and graduate students, but it’s also when students are most likely to run into trouble. The fall semester is when incoming students experience the most thefts, stitches, tickets and sexual assaults—which is why people need skills to interrupt these situations before they become a problem.

Join the Human Resources Faculty & Staff Assistance Program as we challenge the sense of isolation that many LGBTQ+ parents face by providing information about parenting, offering support in this journey, and sharing experiences.
Take the Uni Hill perception survey
Since the Hill Reinvestment Strategy began in 2014, each yearthe city has issued a survey to measure public perception of the Hill. The goal is to see if this collaborative effort is succeeding at moving the needle on improving quality of life on the Hill for its residents, businesses and visitors....
Changes to office supply delivery
There has been a change in the way office supplies are delivered across campus.Starting on Aug. 1, Staples began delivering all orders to the Distribution Center as a bulk delivery. Distribution then delivers the orders on their daily mail, package and freight runs to departments and units across campus.

Staging Shakespeare in a War Zone: Values and Consequences
Qais Akbar Omar, author of "A Night in the Emperor's Garden," will speak on his experiences staging "Love’s Labour's Lost" in Kabul in 2005. This free, public event takes place Monday, Aug. 29, in the University Theatre.
'Does God Make Mistakes? Should God Repent?' discussion Aug. 26
Elias Sacks, assistant professor of Religious Studies and Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, will be giving a talk titled, “Does God Make Mistakes? Should God Repent?” at Aspen Jewish Congregation on Friday, Aug. 26, during Shabbat services at 6 p.m. This talk is the inaugural event of the Boulder Peak to Peak Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.
