Earth Observation Network Science Challenge
COSGC is excited to present our newest statewide program that utilizes the NASA developed STELLA 1.1 handheld spectroscopy device. The STELLA 1.1 features:​ Near Infrared Light Sensor​, Visible Light Sensor​, Ambient Air Temperature Sensor,​ Surface Temperature Sensor, and a ​Pressure Sensor. These devices can take measurements that compliment the readings taken by LANDSAT satellites. STELLAs can be used to measure the urban heat island effect, plant stress due to drought, impact of wildfire on the landscape, agricultural applications, and more!
How to participate in the Challenge:
Step 1: Register your team.
Step 2: Build a STELLA 1.1 - see workshop video series​
Step 3: Practice calibrating and using the STELLA​
Step 4: Develop a research question​
Step 5: Develop a data acquisition plan​
Step 6: Collect data and analyze​
Step 7: Write up results and create video
Step 8: BioBlitz Day!​
Step 9: Present work at COSGC Symposium

EONS Deliverables
Teams will submit a final report to COSGC by April 24. Teams are also encouraged to submit their work to the Statewide Symposium in the video, poster or talk categories.
All registered teams will be invited to participate in the Eastern Colorado BioBlitz Day, April 19th. If you can't attend the COSGC event, we will help you set up a local BioBlitz day to study the biodiversity and environmental health of your area!
