Ecuador
In Bashalan, Ecuador, the community is working with EWB Team Ecuador (formerly Guatemala) to develop a sustainable water distribution system. Residents rely on risky storage practices that endanger their health due to limited hours of water supply and the non-functional infrastructure. In November 2024, the EWB team has successfully implemented eight water taps, providing immediate relief to several households. During a second implementation trip in August 2025, main distribution lines were laid in 75% of the community. To ensure long-term sustainability, community members instructed on how to build and maintain the system independently. Looking ahead, the EWB team plans to travel on another implementation trip to lay the remaining distribution pipelines and installing taps and meters in remaining homes. Following this, the team will conduct final system assessments and adjustments to ensure proper functionality and efficiency. Additionally, future efforts will focus on providing technical training to community members, empowering them to maintain and expand the system as needed. Technical documentation and in-person training for the community is provided by the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä team. Long term, the water distribution system will be functional, repairable infrastructure that can be managed independently by the community.
