Building the Quantum Workforce
Q-SEnSE prioritizes preparing individuals to become quantum-conversant professionals by developing both technical understanding and the professional skills needed to contribute to the growing quantum industry.
Student Pathways
QRX (Quantum Research Exchange)
QRX provides students with opportunities to build connections and develop professional skills through:
- Seminars
- Workshops
- Networking events
- Micro-credential programs
Quantum Forge
Quantum Forge is a capstone experience where physics and engineering students collaborate with local quantum companies.
Students work on real-world challenges by:
- Designing quantum components
- Building experimental systems
- Testing technologies for industry applications
Why Our Educational Approach Matters
By providing hands-on undergraduate research and development experiences, Q-SEnSE ensures the next generation of scientists and engineers are not only theorists but also creators and innovators.
These programs help strengthen the national quantum workforce and accelerate technological development across the industry.
Quantum Education & Policy Summit (QEPS)
The Quantum Education & Policy Summit is a national convening designed to promote cross-field collaboration and strengthen the development of quantum educational programs that build the entire quantum workforce. Organized by NSF Q-SEnSE alongside the Chicago Quantum Exchange, NSF RQS, NSF HQAN, and QED-C, QEPS brings together educators and professionals from across institution types, regions, and sectors.
QEPS 2025 Highlights
The inaugural Summit took place October 22–24, 2025 at the University of Maryland, bringing together nearly 50 educators and professionals from 20 states - including 23 attendees from community colleges and teaching-focused institutions. Through intensive breakout discussions, keynote presentations, and cross-regional collaboration, participants identified key challenges and actionable recommendations for building a more connected national quantum workforce.
Key recommendations from the 2025 Summit include:
- Support cross-cutting initiatives that empower and inform non-R1 institutions
- Centralize and offer resources for quantum education, particularly for institutional administration
- Incentivize cross-regional partnerships and initiatives
"I had never seen all of us in the same room. That made a difference in terms of the depth and reach that we were able to achieve. I hope we keep meeting like this in the future." — QEPS 2025 attendee
The findings from the 2025 report are informing the design and implementation of future Summit iterations. Interested institutions and sponsors are encouraged to get in touch to participate in upcoming events.
